2025 Proclamation Request Language
I would like to request that you, along with mayors, representatives, senators, and governors from across the United States, issue a proclamation declaring May 3 – 10, 2025 as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week in (state).
Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic bone disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as “brittle bone disease.”
Volunteers are joining the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation, the only voluntary national health organization dedicated to helping people cope with the problems associated with osteogenesis imperfecta, to promote May 3 – 10, 2025 as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week.
These efforts will improve the quality of life for people with osteogenesis imperfecta by increasing the awareness of this rare disease among the public, media, government, and medical communities.
Suggested Proclamation Language:
WHEREAS, Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as “brittle bone disease.” A person is born with OI and is affected throughout his or her lifetime;
WHEREAS, there are different types of OI with a range of severity from mild to life threatening;
WHEREAS, because there is no cure for OI, treatment focuses on minimizing fractures, the surgical correction of deformity, reducing bone fragility, maximizing mobility and independent function;
WHEREAS, increased funding for education and research are needed to help find more effective treatments
WHEREAS, the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation is declaring May 3 – 10, 2025 to be National Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week, board members, staff, medical professionals, and volunteers are joining together to focus attention on OI in an effort to increase awareness;
THEREFORE, I, (Insert title) of the state of (state) do hereby proclaim May 3 – 10, 2025 as National Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) Awareness Week in the state of (state) in support of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation’s efforts to raise awareness of this rare disorder.
